The B2B Search Blueprint
Why Volume is the Enemy
Most marketers are addicted to volume. They report "clicks" and "impressions" as wins.
But in B2B and Industrial markets, 90% of that volume is poison.
The Lie: "More Traffic = More Success"
Most marketers are addicted to volume. They report "clicks" and "impressions" as wins. But in B2B and Industrial markets, 90% of that volume is poison.
The Reality
If you are selling a high-value service or technical product, "more traffic" just means:
More students researching papers
More competitors clicking your ads
More job seekers looking for careers
More "Display Expansion" junk traffic hiding in your Search campaigns
You are paying premium CPCs to chase people who will never buy from you.
The Fix: 3 Steps to Kill the Waste
Stop trying to find "more" people. Start aggressively excluding the wrong people.
1. Kill "Display Expansion" and "Search Partners"
Google politely checks these boxes by default. Uncheck them.
Why:
These settings show your text ads on random websites and low-quality partner engines. They drain budget without Intent.
Action:
Go to Campaign Settings → Networks → Uncheck "Display Network" & "Search Partners".
2. The "Exact Match" Fortress
Broad match is a "donation" to Google. It allows them to match your keyword "Industrial pump repair" to "How to fix a bicycle pump."
Why:
You need to control exactly what you pay for.
Action:
Switch your core keywords to [Exact Match] or "Phrase Match". Force Google to respect your terms.
3. The Negative Keyword Firewall
Don't wait to see bad search terms. Upload a "Universal Negative List" before you launch.
Why:
B2B budgets bleed death by a thousand cuts from consumers.
Action:
Add these negatives immediately:
The Job Seeker:
Careers, jobs, salary, internship, resume
The Student:
University, course, pdf, definition, what is, diagram
The Bargain Hunter:
Free, cheap, DIY, homemade, craigslist
Summary
Professional Google Ads management isn't about getting more clicks. It's about getting the right clicks, and having the discipline to say "No" to everything else.
